Animals in Malaysia!

Animals in Malaysia.  Let's just say, I have seen my fair share of water monitors, huge lizard-like creatures, monkeys, cockroaches, mosquitoes, roosters and water buffalo.  The other day when I was taking out the trash, this requires me to walk down a hill to some dumpsters and toss my trash bag into dumpsters without scaring the monkeys or huge lizards foraging in them.  From about ten feet back, I threw the garbage bag towards the dumpsters and a HUGE lizard- like creature the size of a terrier jumped out covered in garbage.  I thought I had accidentally walked into Jurassic Park or the black lagoon.  I screamed, as any person would do, and ran all the way back to our apartment.  I don't plan on taking out the garbage again, until it is completely necessary.

The mosquitoes.  The mosquitoes are not too bad in Marang.  We are lucky.  Andrea and I do not have to use mosquito-repelling devices in our apartment.  Thank goodness because they smell awful and are probably quite toxic.

I have a pet rooster.  Not really but sort of.  Every day on my walk to school, I walk by a house with a rooster.  They rooster always cock-a-doodle-dos right as I walk by and then again in the afternoon.  This rooster is very close to my school and I would hear if it made noise at other times during the day.  It doesn't.  Therefore, I think this rooster is fond of me and like to make noise when I walk by.  Also, when I lost my voice last week, my rooster's voice was weak and faded as well.

Monkeys love to play in our dumpsters and on the telephone wires.  When I look up, I am used to seeing a squirrel or perhaps a bird.  Now I see monkeys.  Everywhere. Yes, they are insanely cute and smart but when you have mental bars on your windows so the monkeys don't come in and steal your food... they become a little less cute and a little more wild.  Never again in my life will I be worried about monkeys stealing my food.
